The deliverable reports on the identified needs associated with the implementation of swappable battery systems for vehicle manufacturers, infrastructure providers, end-users and battery manufacturers.
Swappable battery systems for light-category vehicles offer a promising approach to overcoming challenges for battery-electric vehicles, such as the range anxiety experience by the end user. However, end-users and infrastructure providers as well as battery and vehicles manufacturers have multiple needs that must be addressed for a successful market implementation. To this end it is important to take into consideration all stakeholder views to ensure interoperability, compatibility, safety and acceptance.
The report clearly concludes that the absence of a uniform standard is likely to be an obstacle to the widespread implementation of swappable batteries in Europe.
