Stan4SWAP kick-off meeting

16 Jan 2024

The EU-funded project Stan4SWAP had its official kick-off meeting on January 15 & 16 at Piaggio’s headquarter in Pontedera (Italy).

Stan4SWAP is a two-year project funded by the Horizon Europe research and innovation program (under grant agreement No. 101135417) aiming at developing a standardization roadmap for swappable battery systems for lightweight category electric vehicles.

Battery swapping is an innovative system allowing electric vehicle owners to swap out their empty batteries for fully charged ones in a matter of minutes. It has the potential to revolutionize electric mobility, facilitating the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. This will in turn contribute in a significant manner to decarbonizing the mobility sector, especially in urban areas, taking a significant step towards meeting the EU carbon neutrality targets. Stan4SWAP will facilitate the dialogue between industry, research and standardization, with the aim of developing a roadmap defining future standardization priorities for promoting the adoption of swappable battery systems.

The kick-off meeting was hosted by Piaggio, the project coordinator, and brought together representatives from other seven partner organizations, representing the whole value chain of lightweight category mobility with swappable battery systems. CENELEC is a partner in the project, alongside HYBA, SWOBBEE, KTM, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Fraunhofer ISI, and BMGI consulting.

The kick-off meeting also included a presentation by the Project Officer from the European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA), who expanded on the European Commission’s expectations for the project implementation.
